The way of the drum is our connection to Mother Earth. Her prayer is that the rhythm of the drum awakens the heartbeat deep within us so we can connect to the love, nurturing, and the healing of this being, our Mother Earth. We become as one with the pulse and rhythm of her heartbeat, the heartbeat that is in all living things. In the Native American culture the drum has been called the Heartbeat of Mother Earth, awakening the senses, stirring the soul, building community and facilitating healing. We are all born with a drum – our Heartbeat. In this Drum Birthing Workshop we will be creating a 15-inch or 20-inch round drum using deer, elk or buffalo hide. You will also receive a FREE drumbeater. DEER MEDICINE: Deer medicine touches and heals our hearts. The medicine of the North: the red road and the path of the Heart. When we are healing our heartaches, heartbreaks, or opening the heart and learning to speak from the heart, drumming with deer is powerful medicine. Deer will open you to the higher truth of the intention of your heart. ELK MEDICINE: The animal spirit of Elk is one of strength, nobility, pride, survival, and stamina. Elk medicine teaches us that by pacing ourselves we increase our stamina. Elk people may not complete a project first, but when it is done they have not burned themselves out. Elk are able to look at the long journey and to “hit their stride” to maintain energy and perseverance. Elk reminds us of the importance of community, most especially fellowship with our same gender. BUFFALO MEDICINE: Buffalo Medicine is one of the strongest, fierce and confident energies.
The buffalo is powerful medicine that is a symbol of sacrifice and service to the community. The buffalo is also a symbol of gratitude and honor as it is happy to accept its meager existence as it stands proud against the winds of adversity.
The buffalo represents abundance of the Creator's bounty and respect for all creation knowing that all things are sacred. The buffalo represents a manifestation of the divine aspects of our being. Participants will receive instruction on how to assemble their very own 15-inch or 20-inch Native American hand drum. The process is ceremonial from start to finish in the spirit of the Cherokee Nation and truly bonds us to our drum and our own sacred rhythms. We will initiate the drum with a sacred song & sage smudging.
